SOME THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN TAKING TARGRETIN CAPSULES
Each Targretin capsule is an off-white, soft, gelatin capsule, with the name “Targretin” printed on it. Each Targretin capsule contains 75 mg of bexarotene. Here are some things to remember:
- Vitamin A in large doses may cause side effects similar to those of Targretin capsules. Do not take more than the recommended daily dietary allowance of vitamin A (4000 to 5000 International Units)
- While taking Targretin capsules, your skin may become more sensitive to sunlight; extended exposure to sunlight or sunlamps should be minimized unless directed by your doctor
- If you take multivitamins, check to see how much vitamin A they contain. If you are not sure, ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist
- Always take Targretin capsules the way your doctor tells you.
- Your doctor will tell you how many Targretin capsules to take each day.
- It is best to take Targretin capsules once each day. Take them with, or immediately following, a meal. For example, take them with your evening meal.
- Always swallow each Targretin capsule whole. Do not chew it, dissolve it in liquid, or melt it in your mouth.
- Your doctor may change the number of Targretin capsules you take during your treatment.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible, with food. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your dose schedule as before. Do not take a double dose.
- If you take too many Targretin capsules or someone else accidentally takes your medicine, contact your doctor, emergency room, or the nearest hospital immediately.
- Store Targretin capsules in a dry place in a closed container, away from light and heat, at room temperature
- Keep Targretin capsules out of the reach and sight of children
- If Targretin capsules are broken or leaking, do not touch the capsules or the contents. Notify your pharmacist immediately. If the contents get on your skin, immediately wash the area with soap and water. Notify your healthcare professional
